Blog #2: I'm Feeling Moody...Board!

What's your creative outlet of choice? You know those moments when you want to let your creative juices flow so you...pick up your instrument, maybe some acrylic paint and a blank canvas, or fill in the blank.

Lately I've found that designing graphics for fun is a real stress reliever for me. At my last job I spent a good chunk of time staring at Photoshop designing flyers, web banners or high-res content to post on Instagram. Thank you loyal likers!

Throughout my four years there even when I was "working" on this it was one of the tasks I found a lot of enjoyment from; it was calming sitting there for hours culling all of my innovative energies into this project and feeling a sense of pride looking at the published result.

Today I tasked myself with a mood board. For those who don't know and are reading this, HI MOM & DAD, a mood board is a sort of collage, it could be made on a physical poster board with different cutouts of texts and images, or a digital version. Miscellaneous designers utilize these boards to draw inspiration from for their projects. Sometimes they're referred to as "inspiration boards."

My theme is simple - it's a culmination of things that bring me joy like traveling, neon colors, a nice glass of wine, feisty filled coffee mugs, some of my favorite dogs driving a sick truck with my girl Audrey watching nearby and other hobbies that I love.

I figured a mood board would help me:

  1. Fulfill my creative aspirations for the day.

  2. Act as an exercise to help preserve and polish my Photoshop, graphic design skills.

  3. The most important one - crack some smiles.

There's been a couple of legends we've lost in the art & culture realm—fashion icon, Kate Spade and culinary extraordinaire, Anthony Bourdain. Both tragically so, and whether you follow them or not their experiences remind us how precious mental health is and it is vital to support one another and be kind to each other because you really don't know what everyone is going through.

I hope my mood board brings a little light to your day. Whether the border collie driving a pick-up truck with the pug in shotgun empowering everyone with a little "yasss queen" out the window makes you smirk or the overall imagery gives you a nudge to create your own. Do something creative that brings you happiness and maybe you'll bring out some smiles or inspire someone else too.
